WHAT WOULD MAKE A MORE AMBITIOUS AUSTRALIA?
“A lack of ambition is not what is holding Australia back. We are no more or less ambitious than we have ever been. However, our goal posts have changed.
What might appear like a lack of ambition to an executive trained in the 90’s, might actually be a strong ambition to chase unconventional goals. For example, we are making serious improvements in the culture of inclusiveness and diversity in Australia. Such change has required a huge amount of ambition and risk-taking from people of all walks of life. This ambition does not yield traditional benefits, but is still ambition nonetheless.
I can’t offer any solutions to creating a “more ambitious Australia”, because I don’t think that this is a useful objective. Rather, I think the crux of that feeling of a lack of progress in Australia is due to an identity crisis. Just like we feel weird about the old cliches’ that used to define us (like drinking stubbies, akubra hats and sexist jokes), chasing the dreams of our mothers and fathers is incongruent with many modern Australians.
It is 2020 and we have changed. Our needs, wants and desires are more complex than ever. To gain a strong sense of confidence in our progress, we need new goal posts and a new collective narrative to reflect this. A softer, more feminine and more inclusive narrative.
How can I help? Everyone has an innate desire to help others, so I work hard to help Australians live out their ideals (and ambitions) as they relate to generosity and compassion. What are your values? How would you like to improve the world? What is stopping you from being as generous as you would like? I help to give you confidence and assurance that you are capable of making a difference.”
